Friday Night Update (cont'd)

Just finished watching "Apocalypse Now Redux" for strictly scholarly purposes. What a tiresome load of dreck. Coppola succeeded in making the wretched original even more wretched. The dime-store philosophy, the stoner sensibility, the trite gibberish passed off as profundity -- wotta mess. It even fails as propaganda; the only rational conclusion is that if opponents of the war were this dizzy, there must be something to be said for the other side.

I'd like to find a copy of "Hearts of Darkness," the "making-of" movie; I saw most of it on TV about ten years ago and it goes a long way in exploring the pathology of this sort of tripe.

Friday Night Update (Nothing, If Not Eclectic)

Back again. Pup and The Boss are out east for a coupla weeks to attend the wedding of her 1st L-T nephew (Armored -- he commands (sorta, when they let him) a squad of hummers) and do some sight- and relative-seeing, so Spud and I are baching it. Spud has his learner's permit and his first job (scut worker at a downtown multiplex) so he's well on his way to becoming a menace to society.

Anyhoo, I should have some more time over the next ten days or so to chicken-blog (I keep forgetting to take pictures), reveal The Secret to home-cooking good pulled pork and also to berate #6 for never posting. Then I need to take a coupla days to clean up the bachelor pad and replace the plants we forgot to water.

(Jeepus, I just remembered the neph sitting on my lap as a toddler tooting the air horn in my big truck when I visited his folks in Iowa twenty-some years ago. We're gettin' old, ain't we?)

Time for some media plugs.

Just finished watching "The Fifth Element" by Luc "Too-High" Besson.

Now listening to Savoy Brown, Blind Faith, Joni Mitchell, Jesus Jones, Bent, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jorane, Maroon 5, Tears For Fears and "Men of Harlech"

Not necessarily in that order.

Now eating Four Bean Salad.

Now drinking PBR.
